About Patchwork 50
Patchwork 50 is an independent publication that delivers sharp, entertaining, insider-driven analysis of the collision between emerging technology and the laws struggling to govern it. It is written by a working contract lobbyist operating at the front edge of gaming, EV infrastructure, energy and power, data centers, and AI — sectors where trillions of dollars and fifty different state rulebooks are colliding in real time.
Every new technology arrives faster than the rules meant to govern it, and the result is a patchwork: fifty states, hundreds of agencies, and thousands of gaps between what technology can do and what the law currently allows. Most coverage of that patchwork is written from the outside looking in. This publication is written from inside the room — where the bills get drafted, the licenses get contested, and the arbitrage plays get spotted before they have names. We started writing because that practical, inside-the-apparatus voice was missing, and we answer to no master beyond our own principles, experience, and work ethic.

Why “Patchwork 50”?
Because emerging technology in America isn’t governed by one set of rules — it’s governed by fifty. Fifty states, fifty legislatures, fifty regulatory postures, all lagging the technology at different speeds. The gaps and inconsistencies between them are the most valuable territory in the modern economy. We named the publication after the map.

How is this different from other tech or policy newsletters?
Most tech writers cover what the technology does. Most policy shops track legislation as it exists. We write about the space between — what the regulation is about to do to the technology, and where the gaps are before they close. Few independents write from inside the policy-and-lobbying apparatus across multiple emerging sectors at once. That vantage point is the product.
